About Us - Orhan Ongu
My name is Orhan Ongu and I am a professional guide in Turkey. I have over 21 years of guiding experience and am accredited and licensed by the Turkish government. I am fully qualified to guide you through all archaeological and biblical sites in Turkey and have conducted tours to all such sites throughout my years of guiding. I am proud to have had the opportunity to represent Turkey in many English speaking countries including the United States, Canada, Australia, New Zealand and the United Kingdom, giving lectures and presentations.
I am a Turkish national, born in 1965, in the heart of Anatolia in the city of Nevsehir, Cappadocia. I attended both primary and secondary school in Cappadocia. For my university education, I moved to the capital city of Turkey, Ankara, where I obtained a degree in sociology from Metu, in 1989.
I have always had a keen interest in and a passion for the history of my country. Before attending university, I had the chance to act as an informal guide in Cappadocia, showing travelers all the special areas I had explored as a child. Following my university graduation, I decided to become involved in guiding as a profession.
I attended a government-sponsored course specifically designed to train and thoroughly educate individuals in Turkish history. After completing this course, I was certified as a professional guide and I officially began my career.
I have guided and lectured extensively for brochure groups, including Grand Circle Travel (from the United States), NAWAS (from the United States), Glory Tours (from the United States), Michele Burgess (from the United States) and Insight Vacations (from Australia and New Zealand). I have conducted biblical tours, archaeological tours, cultural tours and have been a guide for special-interest tour groups and for private customized tours. I am associated directly with PMI Tours in Calgary, Alberta, Canada, specializing in luxury tours in Turkey.
